FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

What families and donors most often ask us. If your question isn't here, send it our way and we'll answer it personally.

Door 01For families

Who can you help?

Children, teens and young adults in Michigan who are going through a hard season at home, such as a divorce or separation, a serious illness, the loss of a parent or caregiver, a job loss, or money trouble, and whose plans for school, training or work have been knocked off course because of it.

That covers a wide range: a ten-year-old who needs summer camp, a high schooler planning for college, a twenty-something who wants a trade certificate or job training that leads to a better job.

Do you only serve Michigan?

Yes, for now. We currently help families who live in Michigan. If you're outside Michigan we're sorry we can't help yet, and we'd rather tell you that up front than keep you waiting.

What does it cost?

Filling out the form and talking with us costs nothing, and most of what we do for families is provided at no charge.

In some situations — for example, specialized or extended services beyond our usual support — we may ask for a donation or a fee. If that ever applies to your family, we'll explain it clearly during onboarding and agree on it with you before any such work begins. Every family's plan is worked out case by case, and nothing on this website is a quote, a promise of services or a guarantee of any outcome.

Can you guarantee an award?

No, and please be cautious of anyone who says they can. Grant and scholarship decisions are made by the organizations that fund them, not by us. What we can promise is the work: a careful search, honest advice about what fits, and help with every application and deadline so your young person's best case gets in front of the right people.

What kinds of grants and scholarships do you look for?

Grants and scholarships are "free money" in the sense that they don't have to be paid back, which is why we focus on them rather than loans. We look for awards that match your young person's age, situation and goals, including:

  • summer camp and enrichment programs
  • college scholarships and grants
  • trade, certificate and training programs
  • job training that leads to a better job

Many awards are small, local and easy to miss. Part of what we do is find the ones most families never hear about.

What happens after I submit the form?

Three steps. First, someone from our team reads your form and reaches out, usually within a few business days. Second, we have a conversation and build a personalized plan for your family. Third, we search, match and guide you through each grant and scholarship application, step by step. Along the way we're a single place to bring every question about programs, applications and deadlines.

Do I need documents to get started?

Not to get started. The form only asks about your situation and goals. Later, individual applications may ask for things like school records, proof of income or a short personal statement; we'll tell you exactly what's needed for each one and help you put it together.

Can a young adult apply without a parent?

Yes, if they're 18 or older. There's a box at the top of the form for "I'm 18 or older and applying for myself," which skips the parent and guardian questions. Anyone under 18 needs a parent or legal guardian to submit the form on their behalf.

Can you help with tutoring if we don't need scholarships?

Tell us what's going on and we'll be honest about whether we're the right fit. Personalized tutoring, online certification courses and job training programs are part of what we help families find, and sometimes the best next step for a young person is support in school rather than an award. Start with the form, or send us a note through the contact page.

Door 02For donors

How do I donate?

Visit our Donate page. If you'd like to talk before you give, send us a note through the contact page and we'll make it easy.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

[Confirm: tax-exempt status and EIN before stating anything here. Until confirmed, we do not claim that gifts are tax-deductible.]

We'll post our status and registration details on the financials & governance page as soon as they're finalized.

What does my gift pay for?

The people and time it takes to find, match and win grants and scholarships for families who could never do it alone. Searching for awards, understanding eligibility, preparing applications and tracking deadlines is real work, and your gift is what makes that work possible for a family in a hard season.

Continue ForwardAbout us

Who runs Continue Forward?

Continue Forward was founded by Linda Klein, and messages sent through our contact form reach our team directly. You can read more on our Our Organization page.

How do I share my story?

We'd be honored. If Continue Forward helped your family and you're willing to let us share what happened, send us a note through the contact page. We only share a story with the family's written permission, we'll use first names only unless you prefer otherwise, and you can change your mind at any time.

Are you connected to DivorceAI?

DivorceAI is a partner of Continue Forward, and some families find us through it. Continue Forward serves families going through many kinds of hard seasons, not only divorce. [Confirm: how the partnership should be described]
